Languages
See the languages supported by each elba portal, how initial preferences are imported, and how users change their language.
Supported languages
The elba admin portal is available in:
- English
- French
The member and login experiences are available in:
- English
- French
- German
- Spanish
- Italian
- Portuguese
- Japanese
- Chinese
Employee-facing notifications use the locale stored on the employee's elba account. Supported training content can fall back to English when a translation is unavailable.
How the initial language is selected
elba sets a user's initial locale when their identity-provider profile is synchronized.
Google Workspace
elba uses the user's preferred supported language from Google Workspace. If no preferred language is marked, elba uses the first supported language in the profile. If the profile has no supported language, it uses English.
Okta
elba reads the locale in the user's Okta profile. Region variants are matched by their language prefix, so values such as fr-FR and pt-BR map to French and Portuguese. Unsupported or missing values use English.
Microsoft 365
Microsoft user records are initialized from the final segment of the email domain:
.de→ German.fr→ French.it→ Italian.pt→ Portuguese.ukand.us→ English.jp→ Japanese
This also means an address ending in .co.uk maps to English. If none of these endings match, the EU environment uses French and the US environment uses English.
The Microsoft mapping does not infer Spanish or Chinese from an email domain. A user can select either language afterward in the member experience.
Change your language
Admin portal
- Open the user menu at the bottom of the sidebar.
- Select Switch language.
- Choose English or French.
Member portal
- Open the user menu from the navigation.
- Select Switch language.
- Choose any supported member language.
elba saves the selection to the user's account and browser locale cookie, then reloads the current page in the selected language. The saved account locale is also used by supported notification workflows.
Troubleshooting
A user's initial language is unexpected
Check the synchronized language or locale in Google Workspace or Okta. For Microsoft 365, check the email-domain ending and the region in which the elba workspace is hosted.
The admin portal does not offer a member language
The admin portal supports English and French only. Additional languages are available in the member and login experiences.
The interface returns to an old language
Sign in again, change the language from the user menu, and confirm that browser cookies are permitted for the elba domain. If the account is used in more than one browser, update the preference in the active session.
